THE QUESTION

ESPS was contacted by an important producer in the agricultural sector. The customers’ need was to integrated production processes, which included a self-developed drilling process. The main goals for the client were cutting costs and completely automating the process.

The customer’s output consisted of a sub-assembly, for which several manufacturing machines and manual rework was necessary. The idea is to simplify production by combining the capabilities of all machines as well as the manual finishing into one; this would dramatically simplify production and cut costs.

 

HOW WE SOLVED IT

ESPS developed a flexible manufacturing system, the ‘belt assembly unit’. This new system has a unique software recipe which can cope with the extensive range of products the customer has and with great potential for future expansion. Another advantage is the improved serviceability of the machine thanks to clear error indications. Furthermore, the software is flexible making it easy for the client to modify the recipe.

This enables the client to switch between batches with short changeover times. The improved flexibility allows the client to immediately adapt to market needs.
